kari+dan=engagement shoot

We started out the day with brunch at First Slice, the cafe located inside Lill Street Center on Ravenswood. Since they are know for their pies, we made sure to leave room for a slice which I highly recommend, more like insist. After our bellies were full, we made our way down the street to Architectural Artifacts for the main event. This place is really something else, full of inspiration with three floors filled with wonderful and strange treasures. If you live in Chicago, you should take an afternoon to walk through for yourself, sure to be amazed. Starting the shoot we went in head first and didn't look back. Nothing was off limits and we tried it all, which made for some fantastic shots and a lot of fun. I think we exceeded any expectations we had for the day.

bowling buddies.

Friday we enjoyed three rounds of bowling (noted to selves, stick to just two games) Jaymee worked her magic and got the cosmic bowling turned on, which was great but did not help my score. My only regret was not snapping a photo of our sassy bartender Margaret, I would go back just to watch her give Ashby a hard time.

low angle.

day 5. how low can you go? I've been really loving fire escapes for a bit now. They have a raw organized fashion to them that keeps your eye moving. That must be the reason I've been all over chevron and stripe patterns.

high angle.

day 4. it's corn season and i am taking full advantage. and i'm loving it charred (on the stove, due to lack of grill with city living). I found a delicious recipe on my favorite food blog Smitten Kitchen, and it is basically what has turned me on to the charred corn bonanza.

something green.

day 4. Color and a dose of character.

clouds.

day 3. A bit difficult due to the beautiful and cloudless day we were having. Luckily a few peaked out after dark.

tuesday.

headed downtown with Ld for some photo hunting.

what i wore.

day 2 of the challenge: what you wore/will be wearing that day. This is a favorite outfit of mine, simple with some fun. I liked the idea of laying it out on the bed, just like when you were a kid, picking your outfit and displaying it on the bed for yourself. then thinking...yes, this is what i will wear. what proud moments.

30 day challenge

No no, I'm not doing a celebrity fad diet or anything, more like a photo challenge I found while snooping around the inter-webs. Every day I'll have a "theme" to work with and interpret it however my little heart desires. First entry is a self portrait, which wasn't the easiest, since my model was a bit shy at first, but after a few test shots it was smooth sailing.

Ok, so I've actually been back for a week now...but have been neglectful. That's not to say I've not been out and aboot seeing things. Here are some shots from my first week back.

on the road again.

Bus from Guatemala to San Salvador. One night in a hotel (which I am not embarrassed to admit I giggled with delight after face planting on the kind sized bed). Airport in the morning, Houston in the afternoon, Chicago in the evening!

Bagel Barn

Thanks, Bagel Barn, for helping me stay connected to those great people in the states. But more importantly for your delicious smoothies I drank everyday.

Mi Maestro

This is Miguel, he has the patience of a saint. He was my spanish teacher in Guatemala. We spent every morning together at a table just behind those larger than life hanging plants.

3 Quetzal.

A walk through the ruins of a cathedral, and only 3 Quetzal ($.40)...sure!.

this beautiful oasis is located directly outside my bedroom door.
